Strength of Materials Laboratory

This is a practical subject in which concepts of Mechanics of Materials and Engineering Materials Science are applied, in order to understand the behaviour and properties of materials commonly used in engineering, through destructive tests, considering the required standards, machinery, measuring instruments, and data interpretation procedures.

If you are interested and make an effort, you can get a lot out of this subject. You will have the capacity to:

  • Identify the equipment, measuring instruments, technical standards, and data interpretation procedures applicable to each test.

  • Write test reports in accordance with the applied standards, paying attention to the content; structure; process; results; writing and flow of ideas; presentation; orthography; use of variables, units, punctuation marks, tables, equations and figures.

  • Perform teamwork as either a leader or team member.

  • Identify the differences in the properties of materials, in order to apply them functionally in the mechanical systems design or exploitation stage.

  • Communicate adequately in English language both written and oral.

Instructions for preparing reports can be found in the syllabus
